Brothers aiming to make new Stapleford gym 'best in the Midlands'

The owner of a new gym opening in Stapleford next month says he believes it will be the "best in the Midlands."

Tatham's Powerhouse Gym and Fitness, located on Bessell Lane, is set to open for the first time on June 12.

It is being set up by brothers Jack and Sam Tatham, who are both from Ilkeston and have a history in bodybuilding - this is their first business venture together.

The gym, which will boast a huge dumbbell rack, as well as weightlifting and cardio equipment, is 7,000 square feet and the pair say it should have something for everyone.

Jack Tatham said: "I've worked on it every day for 10 weeks straight.

"I first started working on it at the start of the first lockdown. I got the unit last year and then had to apply for planning permission.

"Me and my brother are quite big in the bodybuilding industry and we've been doing it for about six or seven years, travelling to Rotherham to go to a gym there - but it's a 45 minutes drive, so sometimes it can take around four hours out of your day.

"That's the best facility in Europe and a lot of people around here travel there. What I want to do is provide a place in the midlands for them to train, along with an area for beginners and more casual fitness as well."

Construction is still ongoing at the site, but the brothers are on track for everything to be ready on opening day.

It's planned to have one part of the building dedicated to cardio and general fitness, while another has all the equipment needed for weight training and power lifting - with dumbbells going up to 80KG in weight.

Jack continued: "This will be the best place within the midlands, I can guarantee that. There will be something for everybody, there's going to be nowhere like it in Nottinghamshire that's for sure."

Pre-sale prices are currently listed at £21.99 per month for a membership and Jack has told Nottinghamshire Live 120 people have already signed up.
