Brooklyn woman shows up 15 minutes early for $300 hair appointment. Then the Instagram stylist acts so weird that she leaves without service

The idea of a “social media professional” is still fairly new. Not long ago, finding a hairstylist meant word of mouth, a recommendation from a friend, or walking into a salon and seeing who was available.

Now, for many nail artists, hairstylists, lash techs, and tattoo artists, business comes through Instagram feeds, TikTok clips, polished content, and influencer shoutouts.

Recently, a TikTok creator is calling out what she’s calling an “Instagram hairstylist” for allegedly treating her poorly the moment her appointment began.

What Went Wrong During The Hair Appointment?

TikToker Lee (@bellaleelee8), whose video has racked up more than 862,300 views, starts her clip already frustrated. “It can’t be just me that’s experiencing this, but I am sick of these Instagram hair stylists,” she says.

She explains that while she understands why some stylists have strict rules, basic courtesy still matters. “Certain things like a hi, hello, good morning, how are you doing?” she says.

Lee explains that she booked a new stylist to do her hair and points to her pixie cut. “I’m paying this lady $300 to do my hair,” she says, acknowledging that pixie cuts can be expensive but stressing that price was not the issue.

She says she arrived 15 minutes early for her 1 p.m. appointment. When she walked in, she noticed several people already under dryers and another woman waiting who had not been touched yet. Lee says she greeted the stylist and told her she had a 1 appointment. Instead of responding, the stylist allegedly stared at her.

“We’re just having a stare-off,” Lee says.

Unsure what to do, Lee sat down next to another client. She says the stylist immediately told her to get up. As Lee walked toward her, the stylist reportedly told her to stay where she was and asked for her first and last name. Lee says the stylist looked at her phone, then looked back at her, without saying anything.

Lee tried to sit again. She says the stylist stopped her and told her to go wash her hands. “OK, maybe you’re a germaphobe,” Lee says, explaining that she went to the bathroom and washed her hands with the door open. That prompted another correction. “Close the door,” the stylist told her.

‘Rudeness’ Allegedly Continues

By that point, Lee says the energy felt off. “Your vibes, you’re just giving me stink,” she says in the video, adding that she tried to give the stylist the benefit of the doubt and assumed she might be having a bad day.

After washing her hands, Lee asked if she could sit down. The stylist pointed toward the seating area, which included a couch, a single chair, and a salon chair. Lee says she asked for clarification so she would not sit in the wrong spot. Instead of answering, the stylist repeated one instruction: close the bathroom door.

Lee says she asked again which chair the stylist meant. When the stylist again told her to close the bathroom door, Lee decided she was done. “Cancel my appointment,” she says she told her. “I’m good. Do we have beef?”

Lee explains that at that point, even if the stylist did not realize she was being rude, a professional response would have been to check in. Instead, Lee says the stylist told her to contact the booking app. Lee demanded her $150 deposit back and left.

“I’m not giving my money to a business who does not respect or have manners for their clients,” Lee says. “This is not volunteer work. I’m paying you.”

Lee says she later went to another stylist, who did her hair and told her she was not the first person to complain. “Treat your clients better,” Lee adds. “At the end of the day, your clients is why you have a business.”

Viewers Immediately Know Who She’s Talking About

It did not take long for viewers to identify the salon in the comments, and Lee confirmed it. “This sounds like Twins Unisex Salon,” one commenter wrote. Lee responded, “Sure is.”

A look at the salon’s Yelp page suggests Lee’s experience was not isolated. The business currently holds a 1.7-star rating out of five, with reviews describing rude or hostile behavior. While several reviews appeared after Lee’s video went viral, others predate the incident.

“BEWARE!! IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A HOSTILE ENVIRONMENT AND PURE RUDENESS,” one reviewer wrote on July 15, 2025.

“Very rude! The owner was hostile and hung up on me mid-sentence,” another wrote.

“This was not just one of the worst salon experiences of my life, it was one of the worst days I have ever had,” a third reviewer added.

@bellaleelee8 Can you guys recommend some professional hair stylists in Brooklyn that do pixies? Has anyone else had this kind of experience in general lately? #twinsunisexsalontheglambar @twinsunisexsalont1 Miss Althea was not getting a penny out of me with that attitude. Her twin sister does hair well too tho. #pixiecut #pixie #brooklynhairstylist #review ♬ original sound – Lee

“I am still stuck on $300 for a pixie,” one person wrote.
Lee responds, “Yea girl, but I needed a perm, cut, and was getting a black rinse.”

“Unfortunately I was under the dryer when you came in. I saw the whole thing and I legit felt so bad for you! That was also my first time there and I experienced the same thing. I left and told all my friends about how she treated you,” another commenter shared.

“How do people like this even have clients,” one person asked.

“Never let someone touch your head who don’t like you. NEVER let them put that energy directly into your head,” another added.
