Brooklyn Beckham’s ex says he was ‘telling the truth’ in row with parents David and Victoria

Brooklyn Beckham’s ex-girlfriend Afton McKeith has said he was “telling the truth” following his scathing social media attack on his parents last week.

McKeith, 25, dated the aspiring chef around 2017 when they were both teenagers living in Kensington, west London. Speaking to The Sun, she said Brooklyn struggled growing up in the public eye with A-list parents David Beckham and Victoria Beckham, adding that the current fallout “has not just happened suddenly”.

She said: “There are two sides to every story, but I know growing up in the spotlight was challenging for him.

“He suffered from anxiety. Brooklyn felt as though the world was constantly waiting for him to muck up.

“I now feel his parents could have protected him more and considered the impact of the public Brand Beckham.”

McKeith — the daughter of Scottish TV health guru Gillian McKeith — said Brooklyn often required security when he was younger and would become upset when his picture was taken.

Although he could become “anxious” and “frantic”, she said he did not have the type of personality to get angry.

She also dismissed rumours that his wife Nicola Peltz was behind his recent statement, describing Brooklyn as intelligent and saying he has simply “had enough”.

McKeith added that there was “genuine love” between Brooklyn and his wife.

It follows explosive claims made by Brooklyn earlier this week that he does not want to reconcile with his parents, accusing them of being controlling and accusing Lady Beckham of hijacking his wedding.

Brooklyn’s allegations proved divisive and have prompted a huge response, with plenty of memes mocking the fallout, while some of his claims have been backed up by a DJ who was present.

Yesterday, it was reported that Nicola Peltz is said to have given Brooklyn an ultimatum after feeling upstaged by his mother Victoria at their wedding, demanding: "It's me or her."

A butler at the lavish 2022 wedding reception claims it was Nicola who "behaved like a brat" and ran from the party in front of guests.

The furore is said to have erupted after singer Marc Anthony invited Victoria to the stage, calling her "the most beautiful woman in the room”.

Wedding DJ Fat Tony has also given his account of what happened.

Insiders say the build-up to the wedding was already beset by other tensions, including the Nicola not wearing a gown designed by Victoria.

The butler, who was present at the dance, said: “To suggest the meltdown between Brooklyn and his parents was caused by Victoria twerking with him is misleading.

“Nicola was upset by the words from Marc Anthony that preceded the dance."

He said Victoria has been "unfairly cast as a villain" of the day's events and that Nicola "overreacted" after feeling upstaged.

He added: “After the wedding Nicola was resolute to Brooklyn — you need to choose me or your mother."
