Undrafted players in the NFL often come from small schools, those that don’t get the kind of exposure as certain national powerhouses. That is the case with Denver Broncos wide receiver Kelvin McKnight.

Had he been a few inches taller, McKnight likely would have played at a major Division I program but he instead spent his college days at Samford. However, he’s got the same chance as those players that did come from bigger programs now that he is on an NFL roster.
He is a diminutive wide receiver but one who is coming off a productive college career where his small stature didn’t hinder him one bit. He is a terrific route runner and can make quick cuts with the ball in his hands, allowing for large chunks of yardage after the catch.
He routinely gets behind the defense and had big games against stiff competition. If you get a chance to watch what he did against Florida State last season, do so. In that game, McKnight grabbed 14 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns.
And here’s a fun fact, McKnight is the nephew and former NFL player and legendary Florida State wide receiver Peter Warrick.
The Broncos have an opportunity at the wide receiver position and the team may have another great weapon in the slot and one that can be a legitimate deep ball threat in McKnight.
Chance to make final roster (1-10): 4
Let’s assume that the Broncos are going to keep five wide receivers on the 53-man roster. We know that Emmanuel Sanders, Courtland Sutton and DaeSean Hamilton will have spots. Tim Patrick and this year’s sixth-round pick, Juwann Winfree, should have a good chance to grab the other two spots. But McKnight will get a shot to show that he can beat one of these players out.
Even if he doesn’t make the initial 53-man roster, the shifty McKnight could be a great option for the practice squad.
Keep in mind that the relatively low chances of him making the final roster are being discussed in May. McKnight is capable of increasing those odds drastically in training camp and preseason games.
