Broncos skipper Reynolds allays leg injury fears

Brisbane captain Adam Reynolds has allayed any injury fears over a lower leg blow suffered in the 20-14 loss to Canberra, saying he will be fit to play the Gold Coast next week.

Reynolds was in pain in the first half at Suncorp Stadium, limping for a short period after Canberra's Jarrod Croker landed on his shin and it bent back alarmingly.

The veteran half hobbled for several minutes and completed the match under duress but said he was not worried any major damage had been done, despite handing the goalkicking to Kotoni Staggs for one conversion in the second half.

"It is a little bit sore but I just got caught in an awkward sort of position. I got through the game alright though," Reynolds said.

"It hurt at the time. It was one of those ones where it was like a burner and wears off. There was a little bit of pain there but it wasn't too concerning."

Reynolds later received treatment for a shoulder/neck complaint but battled on in what was a physical and brutal match.

Broncos prop Tom Flegler suffered a category one concussion during the first half and will be unavailable for the clash with the Titans on the Gold Coast on Saturday night. He will now undergo a mandatory 11-day stand down from playing.

The Broncos had top 17 regular Kobe Hetherington back playing in the Queensland Cup after recovering from a pre-season biceps rupture in the gym. The Cup competition has a bye over Easter so the tough middle forward is the obvious replacement for Flegler.

Before the game, Broncos coach Kevin Walters said he wanted to see a ruthless streak in his team. It was the Raiders who showed more of that in a loss that has given the competition leaders a reality check.

In the NRL, it is difficult to maintain winning sequences but despite being previously unbeaten through five rounds coach, Walters said that was no excuse for a sub-par display.

"We weren't good enough. We just weren't in the fight," Walters said.

"All the things we had been doing just weren't there and the Raiders are a well-coached side and they came up here and played well.

"I said to the guys that winning becomes a habit, just getting all the things right. We haven't quite been there. We will take the loss and get on with it next week."
