The backlash continued for ITV’s Broadchurch, which slipped to a new low of 5.6 million viewers on Monday, 2 million fewer than watched the series two opener.
The David Tennant and Olivia Colman drama, which has failed to repeat the universal acclaim for its first series two years ago, had a 22.7% share of the audience from 9pm.
Four episodes into an eight-part run, it was down 100,000 viewers on last week’s episode but just did enough to beat its BBC1 rival Silent Witness, which had 5.5 million viewers, a 22.5% share, also from 9pm.
Broadchurch returned with 7.6 million viewers (30.1%) three weeks ago but has been shedding viewers ever since.
