Brits predicted to spend £1.65bn on last minute Christmas shopping on Super Saturday

Each year, there is a good deal of us that attempt to delay last minute panic buying by woefully declaring our gifting ambitions in mid-November, only to be left furiously googling variations of Best gifts for come December 22. Well friends, you are in good company.

As the inevitable preparations and celebrations take up most of our December weekends many of us will be forced to hit the high street this Saturday in a mad dash to track down something, anything to suffice the big day.

New research from VoucherCodes.co.uk and the Centre of Retail Research has revealed that ‘Super Saturday’ - as it will henceforth be known - expects that 14.9 million last minute shoppers will spend a whopping £1.65bn on their final Christmas purchases on December 22.

Expected to be one of the busiest and most successful days on the high street (take that Black Friday) the last Saturday before Christmas is estimated to equate to £2.38m spent per minute in both online and offline sales.

The majority of shoppers will opt for chocolate and fashion items on this day, while alcohol, toys, perfume, homeware and electronics are also popular gift ideas. Gifts for mums are considered the most difficult to shop for and it has been predicted that it is men that are more likely to leave their shopping till the final moments.
