Brits Awards' Mo Gilligan sparks 'technical difficulties' mystery as live show disrupted

Mo Gilligan left Brit Awards viewers wondering just what 'technical difficulties' caused the Brit Awards to be disrupted on Saturday night, as the presenter was forced to give a vague explanation to viewers at home,.

Comedian and Masked Singer star Mo was tasked with hosting the annual event for the second year in succession, overseeing a whole host of performances from the likes of triple winner Harry Styles, Lizzo, Lewis Capaldi and double winners Wet Leg.

Another Brits performance came from Sam Smith and Kim Petras and, after the duo had taken to the stage to deliver their number 1 hit Unholy. The camera cut back to Mo when the song finished and, after cracking a joke about putting his car into the mocked up garage on stage for a service, he then told the audience at the O2 and the millions watching on ITV at home that the Brits was a live show and there had been some "technical difficulties."

Mo said that there was a performance from David Guetta on the way but, instead people got to see a performance by Adele from last year's Brits. And, even when the performance finished, there was no performance from David, with Mo back in the audience to chat to Maya Jama, Joel Dommett and AJ Odudu.

Proceedings then moved onto the final award of the night, with Harry Styles winning his FOURTH accolade for Album of the Year.

But, as As It Was star Harry was giving his speech, a lot of viewers were wondered what the issue was. Taking to Twitter, one posted: "What were the technical issues? Was the Smith and Petras performance meant to go on longer?" with a second tweeting: "Sorry we are having some Technical issues, because it being live tv and these things happen. Heres Adele from last year. No, you just didnt have an act to fill the gap."

The theory that the show ran under seem to be confirmed by the fact that a reprise of Harry's earlier performance ended things as highlights of the evening played out on screen.
