BRITS 2021: Dua Lipa lashes out at Boris Johnson as she demands pay rise for NHS workers

Dua Lipa lashed out at Prime Minister Boris Johnson in her BRITs acceptance speech this evening as she called for a pay rise for NHS workers.

The 25-year-old artist, who won the award for Best Female Solo Artist, gave a powerful speech saying that it is "very good to clap for them but we need to pay for them".

Addressing the audience, which comprised of thousands of NHS workers, she said: "I think what we should do is we should all give a massive, massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a fair pay rise for our front line.”

She also announced she would be sharing her award with nurse Dame Elizabeth Anionwu, the emeritus professor of nursing at the University of West London.

Dua Lipa also said she was “so proud” to see more women being recognised at the Brit Awards.

This comes after Little Mix became the first female group ever to win Best British Band this evening.

After winning the award, the trio in white joined the stage and were in tears over the win.

Perrie Edwards gushed: "Oh my goodness. Guys, we have just made history! I'm really emotional. In the hopes that he won the award, we made a little speech."

Leigh-Anne Pinnock went on to read their speech, in which they thanked their absent former member Jesy Nelson..

She said: "We have been together for 10 years, it's been the best years of our lives... we want to thank our incredible fans and of course Jesy.

"It's not easy being a female in the pop industry [but] we've stuck together.

Jade added: "The fact that a girl band has never won this award speaks volumes."
