British tourists urged to take posters of missing Madeleine McCann on holiday

British tourists heading abroad this summer are being urged to take posters of Madeleine McCann .

The missing girl vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal more than 12 years ago.

Cops in the UK and Portugal have tried and failed to trace her with several desperate pleas made by her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann .

Now the Official Find Madeleine Campaign is urging British holidaymakers to take 'Find Maddie' luggage tags and posters when they travel in a bid to track down the youngster.

A post on the official Find Madeleine Facebook page read: "Are you going on holiday? Please consider taking our luggage tags and posters. You can download and print from home.

"If you do hang the poster, please ask permission first.

"Thank you for not giving up on Madeleine."

The poster can be printed out in English, Portuguese, Spanish, Turkish, Romanian, Russian, Norwegian, Italian, Icelandic, Greek, German, French, Finnish, Filipino, Dutch, Danish and Arabic.

It comes after the head of the Met Police, Cressida Dick, said the disappearance of Madeleine may never be solved.

She also admitted the case would be closed if there were no new active lines of enquiry.

Last month the Home Office granted a further £300,000 to keep searching for the missing girl.
