Geordie Shore and Ex on the Beach star Vicky Pattison has sent her fans into a tizzy after she posted a video of her letting her dog lick inside her mouth.
As a mother of a beautiful fawn pug named Pogi Poggleton Pogi Meister The First, I understand that some dog owners can go quite overboard in showing affection for their four-legged loved ones.
For me, I tend to spoil my boy with his own dog-friendly perfume collection, double daily walkies and infinite belly rubs.
However, for Geordie Shore‘s Vicky Pattison, it appears that this reality TV diva is going above and beyond.
In a recent Instagram post, which appears to be a collaboration post with fresh dog food subscription service Butternut Box, Vicky is seen letting her dog lick inside her mouth.
The video kicks off with Vicky sitting outdoors with her dog, a black Labrador named Max, who is licking the shizz out of her mouth.
“I can’t help it,” Vicky said to her friend, who responded, “You are Gammy”.
“I know, I’m so sorry,” Vicky apologised before the friend admitted that they “do that too”.
“And you know what? It makes them happy,” Vicky laughed before going in for another snog.
Naturally, some of Vicky’s fans were extremely put off by the video, with many expressing their concerns about bacteria and where the dog’s tongue had previously been. Others also called the video “rank” and “weird”.
“I love my dogs more than anything, but after seeing them licking their bits, I couldn’t,” one person wrote.
“I love my dogs like my kid,s but nooooooo I couldn’t,” another commented.
“THAT IS FOUL — I don’t understand how people let their dogs lick their face… that tongue has been to horrible places,” wrote a third.
Is it safe to kiss your dogs?
Speaking to Channel Nine’s Today Extra back in January, Veterinarian Dr Katrina Warren said letting your dog lick your face should be safe as their saliva is “unlikely to cause issues if you’ve got unbroken skin”. However, if you do have broken skin — such as a cut or a cold sore — the saliva could cause health issues.
“Letting your dog lick your face, their saliva alone is unlikely to cause issues if you’ve got unbroken skin right but if you’ve got broken skin or if they’re getting their saliva across your mucus membranes, like in your mouth, that can transmit bacteria, there’s potential of parasites,” she said.
“Worms and bacteria are your big things to be aware of. I don’t think licking on the face is really necessary, but a lot of people do [it].”
That being said, kissing within the mouth — you know, where you’re basically ingesting the saliva — could do some kind of damage!!!
At the time of writing, Vicky has not responded to her fans’ concerns surrounding her behaviour with Max, and the video has remained on her page.
