British prisoner in Iran has his jail sentence extended by two years

  • British national Craig Foreman, detained in Iran with his wife Lindsay, has had an additional two years added to his 10-year jail sentence.
  • The couple, arrested 18 months ago on espionage charges they deny, are currently on a hunger strike in Iran's Evin prison to protest their treatment.
  • Mr Foreman's family reported that the extra two years were imposed after he spoke to the press, with the decision made without a lawyer or translator present.
  • The family has expressed extreme concern over the couple's deteriorating health due to the hunger strike and the lack of due process in the new sentencing.
  • UN human rights experts have called for their urgent release, while the family's legal team has submitted a complaint to the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention.
