- A British pensioner, Malcolm Timbrell, fears that his wife, Annette Kilgore, and friends died in devastating wildfires in Bedar, Almeria, Spain, after they attempted to flee on foot.
- Mr Timbrell, 70, became separated from the rest of the group when he went back for the couple’s two cats as flames surged through their home village of Bedar.
- He said that he “screamed” at the group not to attempt to outrun the flames: “I’ve subsequently heard that that firewall was moving at 20 kilometres per hour, plus. They had no chance.”
- Mr Timbrell managed to survive with one of the cats by sheltering in abandoned cars.
- A 93-year-old British woman has been confirmed dead from burns in the wildfires, and four other bodies found in a burnt-out car are also believed to be British nationals.
