British by Design: Dovetail Brings Craft and Creativity to Manhattan

Composite image of makers and craft.

At Homes & Gardens, our love of craft runs deep. It’s part of our DNA. We’ve always believed that beautiful design begins with the maker – the skill of the hand, the precision of the eye, the imagination that turns raw material into something extraordinary. This belief, rooted in our appreciation of British heritage and the stories behind every object, makes our partnership with Dovetail feel especially meaningful.

Launching in Manhattan from October 14–30, 2025, Dovetail is a new initiative that brings together some of the UK’s most talented makers, heritage brands, and contemporary designers in a celebration of craftsmanship and creativity. Curated by author and Dovetail co-founder Helen Chislett, the event charts an elegant trail of showrooms across Manhattan – it’s rather like a modern map of British design excellence.

From the New York Design Center at 200 Lexington, home to a critical mass of British brands, to the A&D and D&D Buildings, and through independent showrooms both uptown and downtown, Dovetail invites New Yorkers to experience the artistry and innovation that define British design today.

The lineup features many of the names we’ve long admired at Homes & Gardens: Artorius Faber, Christopher Farr, Colefax & Fowler, Collier Webb, Corston, de Gournay, Drummonds, Edelweiss, Firmdale Hotels and Kit Kemp Design Studio, Jane Churchill, Jennifer Manners, Original BTC, Romo, Savoir, Soane Britain, Vanderhurd, Vaughan, and Woodworks by Ted Todd. Together, they represent the very best of British creativity – a mix of tradition and modernity that continues to inspire the way we live now.

Dovetail also champions two extraordinary institutions – the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST) and The King’s Foundation – whose alumni are among the stars of the trail. Both organizations share a mission that feels especially resonant: to preserve traditional craft skills while nurturing a new generation of makers.

For Homes & Gardens, Dovetail feels like a natural extension of what we do, connecting the artistry of the maker with the appreciation of the audience. Furthermore, it works because Homes & Gardens is a British brand that’s also ingrained in American interiors culture. British design is having a joyful renaissance in the United States (and New York especially) – it’s deeply relevant and forward-looking.

There are plenty of highlights, but we’re especially excited about the DoveTrail: two exclusive guided tours of the route on October 14 and 15, which I’ll be leading alongside Deborah Pocock, CEO of QEST. The festivities officially begin with a launch party at the New York Design Center on October 14, bringing together designers, craftspeople, and design lovers to celebrate the art of making beautifully.

With its thoughtful blend of heritage and innovation, Dovetail offers New Yorkers a rare opportunity to experience Britain’s design excellence up close, to see not just how things look, but how they’re made, and why that still matters.
