British brothers aged seven and nine die in German swimming tragedy

Two British boys have died in a German lake, it has been reported. The youngsters were discovered in the water near Aachen.

Rescuers tried to resuscitate them at the scene but they were both later pronounced dead in hospital. According to German television station NTV police have so far been unable to give any details of the tragedy.

The Mirror reports the public prosecutors office is currently looking into the circumstances around the deaths. The Rurberg natural outdoor pool where the boys were found is in North Rhine-Westphalia and lies near ythe Belgian and Dutch borders.

It is understood both boys had been reported missing several hours earlier before they were found. They were taken to hospital but were unable to be saved.
