British Airways takes passengers behind-the-scenes in new all access documentary

British Airways is revealing all of its secrets in a brand new, all access documentary.

The four-part series, British Airways 24/7: Access All Areas, will air on Channel 5 and will offer an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look into the daily operations at the airline.

Narrated by actor James Nesbitt, the series includes plenty of highlights including a visit from the Queen, a sneak peek inside the Boeing factory in Seattle, and the overhaul of a Boeing 777 aircraft at the airline's engineering base in Cardiff where it was tripped down and completely refurbished including new cabins.

The filming crew was also on hand at London Heathrow to capture the arrival of the airline's first A350 aircraft .

The documentary makes for quite fascinating viewing.

For example, one episode highlights the preparations made for the the Queen's visit to the BA headquarters, a milestone moment as part of its centenary celebrations.

Her Majesty also toured the airline's museum and met volunteer Jim Davies, who joined the company as a booking agent nearly 36 years ago.

Jim said of her visit: "We have never had such an important visitor at our headquarters and I don’t think I’ve ever seen such excitement.

"Thousands of my colleagues came out to welcome Her Majesty and it was the honour of my lifetime to show her the special memorabilia we’d kept from her flights, like tickets, photographs and a royal book that she always signs when she flies with us."

The documentary was filmed over a nine-month period and also follows teams as they open new routes, overhaul premium service, try out new meals (BA chefs travelled to Vienna to develop new menus) and maintain aircraft.

It's basically an insight into what the airline is doing as part of a £6.5 billion investment for customers over a five-year period.

It also comes as the airline celebrates its centenary.

Alex Cruz, British Airways’ Chairman and CEO, said: "It’s fantastic that Channel 5 has been able to capture key moments in British Airways’ one hundredth year.

"The series opens the doors of our aircraft, engineering hangars and even boardroom, like never before, giving viewers a rare insight into the drive for transformation that informs everything we do, the investments we’re making for our customers and, most importantly, shines a light on the people who work day and night to keep our hugely complex global operation running, to bring Britain to the world and the world to Britain."

The first episode of British Airways 24/7: Access All Areas will air on Channel 5 on Thursday 5th September at 9pm .
