A man broke his penis vertically during sex and doctors claim this is the first known case in which this has happened.
The man, who is British, was having sex when his penis apparently buckled.
Upon examination, medics found a three centimetre long tear along the right hand side through an MRI scan.
A broken penis, also known as a penile fracture, happens when damage is caused to the protective layer around the erectile tissue which pumps blood to the penis.
The injury, which was shared in a British Medical Journal report, feels like a broken bone because injuries tend to happen with erect penises during sex.
Thankfully it's very rare though.
The penis buckles under pressure then the blood leaks out and sometimes you can hear a popping sound as well, although that did happen for this particular person.
Doctors said the man's penis "buckled against his partner’s perineum” which is the area between the anus and the genitals.
The man, who was 40 at the time of the injury, had a swollen penis, although he didn't display any other classic symptoms like the rolling of the penis skin.
Usually the erection goes immediately, but in his case it went very gradually.
The tear was vertical, in the middle of the shaft.
Doctors must treat these cases within 24 hours otherwise they can lead to permanent erectile dysfunction.
Luckily the man had successful surgery and within six months he was able to have sex again.
Experts wrote: "This patient was able to resume sexual activity within six months of the injury, achieving erections of the same quality to those prior to the injury, denying any penile curvature or significant palpable scarring."
