Brit dies while jumping off a bridge while on a night out in Australia

A British man died after he slipped and hit his head while jumping off a bridge on a night out with friends in Australia.

The man, in his 30s, jumped from the Noosa Sound Bridge and then went back up to try another jump in the early hours of Sunday morning

But this time he lost his footing and slipped during the descent.

His friends called the police at around 1am and his body was discovered about five hours later.

Jumping off Noosa Sound Bridge in the coastal town Noosa Sound, in the eastern state of Queensland, is a popular tourist activity despite the many warnings about how dangerous it is.

Senior Sergeant Peter Feldman, who is now retired, told Noosa News: “They are not only risking their own lives, but that of people in passing boats.

“It is an offence to jump off certain structures and they are breaking the law.

“It's not the height of the bridge that makes it dangerous - it's the way that they can fall.

“It only takes a fall of a couple of metres to seriously injure somebody.”

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

The Foreign, Development and Commonwealth Office said it was “supporting the family” and is “in contact with the local authorities”.
