Brit Awards 2021: Dua Lipa calls out Boris Johnson over NHS staff pay rise

Dua Lipa made an NHS plea after winning Best British Female Solo Artist at the Brit Awards.

The singer dedicated her accolade to Dame Elizabeth Anionwu.

It comes after winners were given a double-trophy so they could give one to someone else as "an act of kindness." You can read more on this here.

Speaking on stage, Dua said: "I've chosen that my Best British Female of the year is Dame Elizabeth Anionwu. She has spent her stellar nursing career fighting racial injustice; she has also spent so much time and is a strong, strong advocate for protecting frontline workers.

"She has also said there is a massive disparity between gratitude and respect for frontline workers."

She added: "It's very good to clap for them but we need to pay them and so I think what we should do is we should all give a massive, massive round of applause and give Boris a message that we all support a fair pay rise for our frontline."

Over 2,500 key workers were in the audience tonight at the BRIT Awards and Dua's speech received a standing ovation.

Viewers at home reacted too, with one writing: "Dua Lipa telling Boris Johnson to give the NHS a bigger pay rise live on the Brit Awards is brilliant."

Dua wasn't the only one to give a powerful speech, as Little Mix also got audience members emotional after becoming the first ever female band to win Best British Group. You can see what they said here.
