The Brit Awards were hit by an embarrassing blunder when a TV advert was screened revealing The 1975 as winners hours before last night’s ceremony began.
Angry viewers went online to share a clip of the advert which aired on UKTV Play announcing the band as Best British Group and winners of British Album of the Year.
They called the awards a “fix” and later mocked the band when they appeared genuinely shocked at the win during their acceptance speech.
Today it emerged that their record label Dirty Hit had supplied the channel with two versions of the advert.
The rogue one had the voiceover: “This is the Brit award-winning The 1975.” Later in the evening the correct advert was shown captioned as “nominated” instead of “winners”.
A Brit Awards source said: “We are looking into what happened.”
