Brit, 22, killed in horror helicopter accident as his family followed in chopper behind

A British tourist has been tragically killed in a horror helicopter accident while his family followed in a chopper behind.

The 22-year-old had been in the helicopter, which had been hired by their parents, with at least one of his siblings.

But tragedy struck in a horrific accident as the young adult got off the helicopter, apparently unaware the blade was still spinning.

A Greek police source told the Mirror that the Briton had been decapitated by the moving blades at the tail of the helicopter.

"The blades were still in motion when he disembarked and our investigation has focused on possible negligence. The rota should have been at standstill when the young man left the aircraft", they said.

The Briton, identified as public-school educated Jack Fenton, had apparently moved to the back of the chopper, a Bell 407, with his mobile phone in hand.

On Tuesday reports were rife in the Greek media that the Oxford Brookes Student had been about to take a selfie when tragedy struck.

His sibling and their pilot were left watching horrified as they were killed instantly in the grisly accident, around 6.20pm local time in Greece.

The pilot reportedly radioed his colleague on board another helicopter, which had the man's parents on, to raise the alarm.

They diverted his parents to another airfield in Spata, to spare them the horror of seeing their son's body.

Greek media reported that four people had been in the first helicopter and they had been returning from Mykonos and planned to travel to Athens International Airport, where they would fly to Britain.

Proto Thema added the man walked along the back of the helicopter where he was killed by the rear blade.

A source told The Sun: “The pilot saw what had happened and decided to spare the parents the sight of their son - it was horrendous."

The outlet also reported a police source who said: “We are talking about a tragedy - an unprecedented tragedy - a tragedy that should never have happened.”

Reports suggest an investigation is ongoing into how they were allowed to get off when the rotor blades were still in motion.

The pilot has been arrested on manslaughter charges and two ground technicians have also been held by police

The tragic accident took place on a reported 115 mile trip which would've cost tens of thousands of pounds to pay for.

A Foreign Office spokesperson said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Greece and are in contact with the local authorities.”
