Bristol Stop The War protest planned this weekend

Supporters of Bristol Stop The War will be taking to the streets this Saturday, along with others across the country, to talk to people about "the necessity for peace and what we can do to try and make it happen". All are welcome to join the demonstration and listen to speakers, who will be calling for peace talks and the end to the war in Ukraine.

The event will take place on the Cascade Steps in the city centre between 1pm and 3pm. It comes ahead of next week's Nato Summit in Vilnius, Lithuania.

Bristol Stop The War supporters are using the hashtag #PeaceNow and dub next week's summit as "providing the Western war machine with another opportunity to ramp up the war in Ukraine" adding that "the conference will see calls for further pledges of billions of pounds worth of arms for Ukraine despite the increasingly bloody stalemate on the battlefield".

Details of the event go on to say: "The war in Ukraine has already resulted in hundreds of thousands of casualties and untold misery for millions. The calls from governments and people across the world for a ceasefire and peace negotiations need to be redoubled.

"Rather than do all it can to encourage a ceasefire and peace talks our government is seeking by every means to prolong the conflict. It must be brought to its senses.

"#PeaceNow is the only way forward. The longer the conflict continues, the more the dangers to the world escalate. Join us on Saturday."
