Bristol Rovers confirm two new contracts and three deals for young prospects

Bristol Rovers boss Joey Barton is delighted to tie up new contracts for "great prospects" Lucas Tomlinson and Ollie Hulbert.

The Gas announced on Wednesday the academy graduates had inked one-year extensions at the Mem.

Midfielder Tomlinson has flirted with first-team action at the Mem and, after a frustrating season with three managers, a limited amount of development football and loan spells cut short, the 20-year-old will be desperate to make a breakthrough into Barton's plans this summer.

Hulbert, aged 18, penned his first professional deal at Rovers last summer and spent this season on loan in the Welsh Premier League with Cardiff Metropolitan University. He was one of the division's outstanding strikers with 13 goals in 23 appearances.

"We are delighted that both Ollie and Lucas have extended their contracts," Gas boss Barton said.

"Ollie has impressed recently while out on loan, an experience that will serve him well for next season and beyond.

"Lucas is a talented individual that has shown a great deal of determination to progress through the pathway from club’s academy.

"Both players are great prospects for the future and I'm looking forward to working with them next season."

The Gas have also confirmed academy graduates Sam Heal, Kinsly Murray and Joe Budd have signed professional terms.

As reported exclusively by Bristol Live a fortnight ago, left-back Heal has agreed a one-year contract, while midfielder Budd and winger Murray have signed six-month deals.

'I'm delighted that Kinsly, Joe and Sam have secured professional deals with the club, and it shows another example of the pathway through Bristol Rovers," Rovers' academy manager Chris Hargreaves said.

"I look forward to seeing how they develop from here."
