Bristol Pride 2019: Security measures in place for festival including banned items

Bristol Pride is now less than a week away where hundreds of people take to the streets in flamboyant clothing celebrating LGBT+ rights.

This fortnight long festival has been educating us on true equality for all since June 28, with everything from The Trans Pride Social to Bristol Pride taking place right here in Bristol this weekend.

There’ll be a colourful line up in store for those attending the festivities, including Saara Aalto, who has featured on The Voice of Finland and X Factor UK, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Sing Out Bristol, Hazell Dean and many more.

On top of the extensive line up, there’ll be plenty of food to indulge in on the day, with  a variety of vegetarian options such as Mr Roast Potato’s and Olives N Stuff.

Although, if you plan on going to The Downs to immerse yourself in this festival of inclusive love, you’ll want to know what security measures have been set in place, including items you cannot take.

Searches at the gates

Bag searches will be taking place at Bristol Pride, which will be set in place for the safety of those visiting. Queues could take a little longer than expected due to the bag searches, the festival organisers have said.

They have also advised anyone not to bring a bag unless it’s absolutely necessary, in order to speed up the entry for everyone attending celebrations on the day.

Attendees are permitted to bring folding camping chairs, although if they are asked to put it away they will be required to comply with what the security has instructed them to do and cannot sit blocking emergency exits.

Banned Items:

  • Unsealed bottled water and soft drinks
  • Glass
  • Alcohol
  • Zero tolerance policy to drugs
  • All substances described as a ‘Legal high’
  • Nitrous oxide
