Bristol County Ground transformed by street art mural of WG Grace

One of the city's biggest sporting venues has undergone a major revamp with huge street art murals painted of Bristol's most iconic landmarks and cricket stars.

The finishing touches were completed ahead of the England Women’s Ashes T20 match and the club's five Bristol Vitality Blast Twenty20 fixtures.

The home of Gloucestershire Cricket has been transformed to reflect the heart of Bristol with the club's heritage.

Street artist, Silent Hobo - who has worked for the National Trust - has been heavily involved in the street art scene in Bristol for many years, has used his creative flare to bring Nevil Road entrance to life.

The extensive project was born out of the desire to better reflect the club around the ground while also celebrating the city and its people, and the importance of cricket as a sport played by all.

Will Brown, Chief Executive of Gloucestershire Cricket said: “Bristol is one of the most internationally renowned street art cities and the Gloucester Road area itself is a haven of colourful street art, reflecting its creative neighbourhood.

It is important to us at Gloucestershire Cricket to reflect our place in the city and community."

Mr Brown believes the revamp of the ground will become more identifiable to visitors and attract a new audience to the game, he said: "Street art is something that has helped establish Bristol as an international visitor destination and it is a way to recognise the city’s and club’s heritage in a fresh, contemporary way."

Cricket fans can expect to see a giant yellow cricket ball featuring the club crest bursting out of the main entrance wall, including a giant depiction of the legendary Gloucestershire cricketer WG Grace and designs of re-imagined scenes from cricket matches.

"We are absolutely delighted with the outcome of this work and look forward to seeing the reaction of visitors to our forthcoming matches," said the Mr Brown.
