Bristol coronavirus update as three further deaths are recorded in the region

The Bristol area has recorded 675 new cases of coronavirus, with three further Covid-related deaths in the region.

A total of 293 cases were found in Bristol city according to the latest figures from Public Health England today (August 7).

South Gloucestershire had the second-highest number of new cases in the region after 141 were found in the last 24 hours.

Bath and North East Somerset recorded 83 new cases while North Somerset found another 59.

Today's update means there has now been a total of 100,900 confirmed cases of the virus in the Bristol region since the start of the pandemic.

Three further deaths have been recorded in the region, in Bath and North East Somerset, taking total deaths in the region to 1,399.

Nationally, the Government said a further 103 people had died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19 as of Saturday, bringing the UK total to 130,281.

Separate figures published by the Office for National Statistics show there have been 155,000 deaths registered in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate.

As of 9am on Saturday, there had been a further 28,612 lab-confirmed Covid-19 cases in the UK, the Government said.

Government data up to August 6 shows that of the 86,207,851 Covid jabs given in the UK, 46,997,495 were first doses, a rise of 35,665 on the previous day.

Some 39,210,356 were second doses, an increase of 162,827.
