Bristol coronavirus tier announcement delayed

Bristol has been waiting with bated breath all day to learn what restrictions will be imposed on us after Christmas.

But during a live press conference this afternoon (December 16), Boris Johnson said the key decision will not be announced until tomorrow.

No time was given for when the update will take place.

The Prime Minster also confirmed he would not be updating rules around Christmas meet-ups.

Under the festive bubble rules, up to three households will be allowed to mix between December 23 and 27.

Urgent talks have been taking place between the UK Government and leaders of the devolved administration after calls mounted to abandon or tighten up Christmas easing.

Although the decision was made to keep the rules the same, messaging of caution for the Christmas period is being strengthened.

Chief medical officer Professor Chris Whitty said: “There are four things to think about that are specific to the festive season, Christmas. The first thing is keep it small.

“Keep it short. Keep it local. And think of the most vulnerable people.”

He also urged people to treat their Christmas planning like a treacherous icy road'.
