Bristol City winger and Celtic target 'holds talks' over £5m departure from BS3 - report

Niclas Eliasson has held talks with Fenebahce sporting director Emre Belozoglu over a move to the Istanbul giants, according to reports in Turkey.

Eliasson's three years at Bristol City appear to be coming to an end with the Swedish winger's contract expiring in 2021 and little indication he plans to extend beyond that date.

City have been in on-off talks with the 24-year-old since last summer but the club are in a position now where they have to sell otherwise risk Eliasson running his contract down and leaving for nothing.

Fanatik, via Sport Witness, report that Fener - who are also interesting in Eliasson's teammate Famara Diedhiou - want to sign two wingers this summer.

Eliasson and Bournemouth's Arnaut Danjuma are two of their targets and discussions with the City player are said to have "gone well" with the two parties set to meet again in the future.

Eliasson, who made a career high 12 Championship assists in the 2019/20 season and scored three goals, is believed to be valued at around £5m, given his expiring contract, but does have interest elsewhere.

His agent Hasan Cetinkaya, who Eliasson switched to last summer and appears to have eased his departure from the West Country, has claimed that Celtic, Lazio and Villarreal are also monitoring his client.

The managerial situation at Ashton Gate is thought to have little bearing on Eliasson's situation as the Swedish winger looks set to leave irrespective of who takes over from Lee Johnson.

As is the case with Diedhiou, the fact the club have been unable to agree terms for over a year now indicates the player's desire to move on.

There is also the added complication of the financial impact of Covid-19 and the likelihood of a Championship-wide salary cap which will mean City will have to bring their £30.6m wage bill in line with restrictions, not increase it.
