Bristol City player ratings vs Rotherham: Conway delivers response as Sam Bell impresses

Max O'Leary - 6

Didn't have a shot to save in the first half but showed his safe pair of hands from crosses in the opening 45 minutes. Little chance in saving the penalty. Looked nervy in the second period when City were put under pressure.

George Tanner - 6

A largely comfortable afternoon down his side although allowed Ferguson too much space to get his strike away which came off the post in the second half. Didn't get forward frequently enough to put pressure on the Rotherham backline.

Zak Vyner - 5

Some excellent covering tackles, reading the game superbly when the ball was played in behind Naismith. Game was unfortunately blighted by his error in the second half, initially failing to clear his lines before conceding the penalty - albeit extremely soft.

Kal Naismith - 6

Re-introduction to centre-back almost paid off after 10 seconds when his pass allowed Sam Bell to have an opportunity. Played it upfield early, looking for the runs of Bell and Conway with the Rotherham defence struggling to match their pace. Had the ball played behind him once or twice but was comfortably mopped up by Vyner. Couldn't win the ball off Ogbene for the equaliser.

Cam Pring - 7

Back out at left-back and duly rewarded when his pinpoint cross found the head of Conway after 15 minutes. Powerful runs going forward but looked uncomfortable with the runs of Ogbene in the second half.

Andy King (off 78, Williams) - 6

Was totally in control of the game until around 60 minutes until Rotherham started taking more risks by getting runners forward. Then became overrun on the counter attack.

Matty James - 7

Barely looked as though he had to break a sweat for prolonged periods. Calm on the ball under pressure, keeping City in possession.

Alex Scott (off Weimann, 70) - 6

A quiet game for the midfielder by his standards who came back into the starting XI playing in the No10. Couldn't stamp his authority on the game from an offensive point of view. Booked before being taken off with 20 minutes to play.

Sam Bell - 7

Almost scored after around 10 seconds when his effort was palmed away. Had 36-year-old Lee Peltier on toast with the defender unable to keep up with his pace and energy. Led the counter-attack effectively but faded as the game went on.

Tommy Conway (off 83, Wells) - 8

The perfect response from Nige's midweek comments with a brilliant header to open the scoring - a proper centre-forward's goal. Stretched the defence with his pace and runs down the channel and linked up with Bell well. Could have had a penalty and a second goal when his strike on the angle was saved well.

Harry Cornick (off 70, Sykes) - 6

Missed an absolute sitter to double City's advantage in the first half, somehow firing over from a few yards out. Plenty of energy without posing a threat to Rotherham's goal after his early chance. Held the ball up well for Conway in the second half.

Substitutes

Andi Weimann (on 70, Scott) - 7

In the right place at the right time to salvage three important points right at the end.

Mark Sykes (on 70, Cornick) - 6

Managed to dig out a couple of dangerous crosses but to no effect.

Joe Williams (on 78, King) - N/A

Nahki Wells (on 83, Conway) -N/A

Subs not used: Wiles-Richards, Dasilva, Mehmeti
