Bristol City defender Zak Vyner expected to complete loan move to Aberdeen

Bristol City defender Zak Vyner is close to heading to Aberdeen on loan, Bristol Live understands.

The Dons hope to conclude a deal in time for the versatile defender to join them on their trip to Croatia, with the first leg of their tie against Rijeka to play on Thursday.

Vyner, 22, spent the season on loan at Rotherham last season where he played at right-back, but the imposing and athletic Robin also plays at centre-back, as he looks to continue his development from last season.

A switch has not been completed but should go through soon, with all parties happy for a temporary transfer.

Vyner attracted interest earlier in the summer from former side Rotherham with manager Paul Warne impressed by the City academy graduate's attitude and performances across the campaign at the New York Stadium.

And the defender was in contention to be involved on Sunday against Leeds United, especially with Antoine Semenyo suspended and the need for a 'club-developed' player to be involved.

Instead Jojo Wollacott was given a place on the bench as the reserve goalkeeper and Taylor Moore got the nod at centre-back to partner Tomas Kalas following Adam Webster leaving for Brighton.

And with Bristol City expected to bring in a central defender over the next couple of days - with rumours of an interest in Aberdeen centre-back Scott McKenna even - a deal could suit all parties.
