Bristol cinema still showing gang-themed Blue Story after mass brawl

A Bristol cinema is still showing the gangster film Blue Story, despite a mass brawl that occurred at an entertainment complex in Birmingham.

The Mirror reports that Showcase cinemas in Nottingham, Southampton and Reading won't schedule any more viewings.

This is a similar picture across Bristol, where chain cinemas such as Vue and Showcase Cinemas are no longer showing the film either.

However, Cineworld at Hengrove Leisure Park is still showing Blue Story, with three more scheduled screenings today.

Bristol Live approached Cineworld for a comment but a spokesman is yet to respond.

The film portrays inner-city gang life.

Directed and written by music artist Rapman, real name Andrew Onwubolu, is based on his own experiences of gang violence and carries a pacifist message.

Two friends become caught up in the world of South London "postcode wars".

The incident at Star City in Birmingham, where there is a Showcase cinema, saw seven police officers injured on Saturday night. Five teenagers have been arrested in connection with violence.

Online commentators have slammed the decision to stop showing the film by Vue cinemas as "racist" while critics have suggested the film promotes gang violence.
