Bristol Christmas Market 2020 has been cancelled

Bristol Christmas Market 2020 has been cancelled.

A statement was shared on the event's website today (September 2) informing people it will not be taking place this year.

Although the statement does not reveal the reason for cancellation, it is likely to be because of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has forced thousands of events across the UK to be scrapped.

The market, which normally brings more than 50 stalls to Broadmead, is planned to take place in 2021 between November 5 and December 23.

The statement shared by organisers of Bristol Christmas Market reads: "We are sad to announce that this year’s Bristol Christmas Market has been cancelled.

"We look forward to welcoming you back to Bristol Christmas Market in 2021."

The news comes after it was announced in July that Bath Christmas Market has also been called off this year.

Hundreds of followers of Bristol Christmas Market on Facebook have expressed sadness at the cancellation.

A number of people have joked that "Christmas 2020 is cancelled".

Bristol Live has contacted organisers German Events Ltd for more information about the cancellation and is awaiting a response.
