'Bring more life to matchdays' - Sela chief reveals St James' Park plans for Newcastle United

Newcastle United's new shirt sponsor Sela, known for hosting grand events in Saudi Arabia, want to create an incredible matchday experience for fans at St James' Park in the coming years.

The Saudi-based company have signed a 'multi-year' deal with Newcastle, said to be worth £25m-per-season. The kit launch on Friday was a huge success, with Newcastle fans overwhelmingly happy with design for the 2023/24 campaign.

Newcastle have confirmed designs will soon be drawn up for a fanzone situated on Strawberry Place, with Sela set to play a big role in the development. Ibrahim Mohtaseb, Senior Vice President at Sela, has revealed his business wants to work together with the club to vastly improve the entire match day as a whole for supporters.

"We have interesting and exciting ideas and we are working closely with the club to bring more life to matchdays at St James' Park - and to put together a fan zone that fans will enjoy," he said when the deal was announced.

Newcastle CEO Darren Eales added: "Fan engagement is really important to Newcastle United and we feel with Sela as a partner, given their experience in the event industry and the extravaganza they put on around the globe for millions of people, mean they're a really good fit for us."

Newcastle United's players, in their fresh new home shirt, were showcased to shoppers at one of Saudi Arabia's biggest outdoor complexes on Saturday as the club's partnership with Sela began.

Adverts have been beamed out in Boulevard Riyadh City, which features its own set of activities, restaurants, events, and outlets, with Saudi fans able to buy the kit over the summer. Meanwhile, Newcastle's club shop was inundated with visitors before it had even opened its doors on Saturday morning as fans queued to get their hands on the new home shirt.

Training merchandise has also been released but fans will have to wait for the unveiling of both the away kit and third kit for the upcoming season.
