Brilliant video shows Sanjay the baby rhino arriving at Edinburgh Zoo – by crane

Edinburgh Zoo's latest inhabitant arrived at his new home in style this week.

Sanjay, a two year old greater one-horned rhino, was craned into the zoo on Wednesday evening – and there was a brilliant video taken to capture the moment.

The magnificent beast arrived from Nuremberg Zoo and will soon be introduced to fellow youngster Qabid.

In the footage released by the zoo he can be seen arriving in a shipping container, which had been loaded into the back of a lorry, after a lengthy 1000 mile journey.

First gannets of the season land at Bass Rock in the Firth of Forth

Teams then used a crane to pull the container up and over the zoo walls, before dropping him into his new home.

After a tricky few moments getting himself out of the container he wasted no time making himself at home – grabbing a bite to eat and enjoying a refreshing drink.

The zoo say that they care for juvenile male rhinos until they are old enough to be paired with a mate as part of the European breeding programme.

The spiecies are currently under increasing threat of extinction due to poaching and habitat loss.

Sanjay's arrival can be seen in the video above.
