Ayari had put the home side ahead after 13 minutes with a curling 30-yard screamer, before excellent work from Bowen allowed Kudus to equalise at the start of the second half. Soucek might have thought he had won it for West Ham when he nodded Bowen’s deep cross past Verbruggen in the 83rd minute, but a Mitoma header six minutes later drew Brighton level, before Baleba put the icing on the cake in injury time with carbon-copy, left-footed version of Ayari’s opener, setting the ball out well wide of the post and bending it sweetly into the top corner from 35-yards. Three goals from just 1.35xG for the hosts tells the tale of their quality. It’s a first win in five Premier League games for Brighton, who move up to ninth, six points behind Aston Villa in seventh. They host Newcastle next weekend. A gutting defeat for West Ham, now winless in seven, but defeat for Ipswich this afternoon has confirmed the Irons’ Premier League status for next season.
