Oct. 09--A West Chicago man found guilty of sexually assaulting two young girls and described by DuPage County prosecutors as a dangerous sexual predator was sentenced Thursday to 24 years in prison.
Darinel Velazquez-Roblero, 28, was found guilty in an April jury trial of predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
He was arrested in July 2013 after authorities say he repeatedly assaulted the two girls over the previous 18 months. The assaults came to light when one of the victims told a family member, who contacted West Chicago police, who eventually brought in the DuPage County Children's Center.
"Darinel Velazquez-Roblero is a dangerous sexual predator who has certainly earned his prison sentence," State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.
Velazquez-Roblero faced a six- to 30-year prison term. Judge Robert Kleeman handed down the sentence.
