BRIEF: Weather or not, Cubs warm to task

Oct. 19--Despite wearing ski masks to combat temperatures that dipped below 40 degrees Saturday night, the Chicago Cubs players haven't been affected by the cold weather, according to manager Joe Maddon.

Their determination, however, will be challenged Sunday night in Game 2 of the National League Championship Series as temperatures are expected to drop into the mid-30s with winds expected to gust to 22 mph.

"They were fine when I talked to them," Maddon said. "Starlin (Castro) before the game told me he'll be cold when the game is over. I thought that was beautiful, and he played very well."

Right fielder Jorge Soler and Castro were among the players who sported thin ski masks while playing, but Maddon said there wasn't any discussion regarding the weather during Saturday's game.

Soler wasn't in the lineup Sunday night, and Maddon had a witty suggestion after a reporter mentioned that Soler doesn't hit well when temperatures drop below 50.

"If it's going to be less than 50, we'll keep him warm until we need him," Maddon quipped.
