BRIEF: Watch Ernie Els six-putt for a quintuple-bogey on the first hole at the Masters

April 08--Ernie Els has won four major championships, but never the Masters.

This year's tournament at Augusta National just started Thursday morning, but it's already pretty safe to say the former world No. 1 won't be changing that statistic this year.

That was clear on the par-four first hole, where the South African golfer six-putted from two feet for a quintuple-bogey.

The effort is almost painful to watch as the ball continues to roll from one side of the hole to the other, with Els even missing a 10-inch tap-in at one point.

Els set the record for the worst score on the first hole at the Masters, beating the old mark by two strokes.

Originally it appeared even worse, as the scorekeeper initially marked Els down for a seven-putt and sextuple-bogey before correcting the error.

Els was runner-up at the Masters in 2000 and 2004. He's through nine holes and still at six-over par after making bogey at the fourth and getting a birdie at the fifth. Jordan Spieth is in the lead at six under.
