BRIEF: Walt Disney Co. announces 'Frozen 2'

March 12--Walt Disney Co. used its annual shareholder meeting Thursday to announce a sequel to "Frozen," the 2013 animated smash hit.

Disney Chief Executive Robert Iger was joined on the stage of San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts by "Frozen" actor Josh Gad and Walt Disney Animation Studios Chief Creative Officer John Lasseter to make the announcement.

"Frozen" filmmakers Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, as well as the character Olaf, who was voiced by Gad, will return for the sequel, Iger said.

No release date was revealed.

"Frozen," about the adventures of princesses Anna and Elsa, was released in November 2013 and grossed more than $1.2 billion worldwide.

Fans looking for a "Frozen" fix will have a chance to see their favorite characters on the big screen starting Friday. A new short film, "Frozen Fever," will screen ahead of all showings of Disney's live-action remake of "Cinderella."

Shareholders in attendance on Thursday were shown the seven-minute short film.
