BRIEF: Two people killed, two injured in one-car crash in Lynwood

May 25--Two people died and two others were injured early Monday when the car they were in struck a tree in Lynwood, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 1 a.m. as the vehicle was traveling southbound on Atlantic Avenue near Carlin Avenue, said Lt. Michael Thomas of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Century Station.

The driver apparently lost control before the car hit a tree on the west side of Atlantic, Thomas said. The vehicle jumped a curb and skidded across a parking lot before coming to rest against an adjacent building.

A man and a woman who were passengers in the vehicle died at the scene. The driver and another passenger were injured and transported to a hospital in unknown condition, Thomas said. None of the car's occupants were identified.

An investigation was underway, Thomas said.
