BRIEF: Two charged for firing gun into the air in Mount Prospect

Jan. 28--Two men are facing charges after allegedly firing a gun into the air in suburban Mount Prospect last week.

Juan Ibarra, 22, of Hoffman Estates, and Ivan Avila, 18, of Rolling Meadows, have each been charged with one count of aggravated unlawful discharge of a weapon, according to statement from Mount Prospect police.

Police said Ibarra and Avila fired a gun into the air to intimidate rival gang members last Friday, January 23. About 8:45 p.m., officers were called to the 1500 block of Canford Cliffs Road for reports of shots fired, police said.

Witnesses reported seeing two men run thorugh a parking lot and get into a silver-colored vehicle which then fled the scene. Police found a vehicle matching the description and "determined" two of the men inside -- Ibarra and Avila -- had shot the gun into the are. Officers recovered the gun, according to the statement.

Ibarra and Avila were charged and appeared in bond court Sunday at the Cook County Criminal Courthouse. Ibarra was ordered held on $40,000 bond, and Avila was ordered held on $20,000, police said.
