BRIEF: Trader Joe's salads recalled due to salmonella fears

May 10--WCD Kitchen, a California-based company, announced Tuesday a voluntary recall of Trader Joe's Kale Edamame Salad due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recalled salads, which were sold only in the Midwest, are packaged in a 10-ounce plastic clamshell with a "use by" date of May 5 through May 16, according to the recall announcement. In total, 3,763 salads have been recalled from Trader Joe's stores in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

WCD Kitchen issued the recall after it was informed by the kale supplier, Pearson Foods Corp., that the kale had tested positive for salmonella, the statement said. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.
