BRIEF: St. Charles house fire causes $175,000 in damages

April 16--A late-night fire Wednesday caused $175,000 in damages to a St. Charles home, according to fire officials. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters responded to the house on the 2900 block of Royal Fox Drive at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday after police on the scene reported the fire in the house's attached garage, officials said in a news release. Firefighters arrived by 11:39 p.m. and found the heavy garage fire making its way into the house.

Firefighters put out the fire within an hour and a half, officials said.

The fire was discovered by a resident of the home who entered the garage to do some work. He told his brother, who called 911 and alerted the other residents. All the residents were able to evacuate the home safely, officials said.

Seven other fire departments assisted at the scene or with coverage at other fire stations.

Fire officials are continuing to investigate the cause of the fire, which they don't consider suspicious. Officials said the house is inhabitable, and that residents have arranged for temporary housing .
