BRIEF: South Side singer wows on 'America's Got Talent'

June 11--Take her to Radio City Music Hall!

South Side native Sharon Irving, 29, earned the golden buzzer, a rarely-used high honor on "America's Got Talent," for her performance of Hozier's "Take Me to Church" Tuesday night.

"That was beautiful," judge Howard Stern said.

"You sent chills down my spine. The whole audience, you could hear a pin drop. Literally. And for that reason alone, I feel compelled to do something that I have never done before. Do you want to know what that is,?" judge Melanie Brown asked Irving before pressing the golden buzzer, which sends contestants to the live round in Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Irving, who lives in Grand Rapids, Mich., is not the only act with Chicago roots to wow judges on "America's Got Talent." Last week Chicago duo Freckled Sky earned the golden buzzer for their light-infused dance show. Last month, South Side native Chris Jones was voted to go on to the next round after hypnotizing judge Howie Mandel.

The winner of "America's Got Talent" gets $1 million. The NBC show airs Tuesdays at 7 p.m.
