BRIEF: Sky's Elena Delle Donne receives 2nd straight community award

Sept. 03--Elena Della Donne's work with Special Olympics and efforts to raise Lyme disease awareness were recognized with a second consecutive Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award, the WNBA announced Thursday.

The Sky star, whose older sister Lizzie is blind, deaf and autistic, serves as a global ambassador for Special Olympics, making hospital visits and hosting basketball clinics. Delle Donne also became the first national ambassador for the Lyme Research Alliance to raise funding to research the disease she contracted in 2008.

The Wilmington, Del., native also partnered with the Delaware 87ers to host a benefit for LymeAid 4 Kids, which raises money to help families pay for Lyme disease diagnosis and treatment.
