Derrick Rose, Taj Gibson likely to return Tuesday

Nov. 04--Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson participated fully in Monday's practice and the Bulls listed them as probable for Tuesday against the Magic.

That the game begins a four-games-in-five-nights stretch won't factor into a decision on their availability, according to coach Tom Thibodeau.

"What we're doing is taking it day-by-day and game-by-game," Thibodeau said. "If a guy needs time, he'll get time. If he doesn't, he'll play. As long as they're feeling well, they should play. It's really that simple."

Both players missed Saturday's victory over the Timberwolves with sprained left ankles. And after originally calling Rose's right ankle injury a tweak, the Bulls now list that as having been sprained as well.

Thibodeau pointed to Rose navigating five games in six days and nine in 16 with USA Basketball at this summer's World Cup as why the Bulls won't schedule set days off for him.

"We're going by how he's feeling," Thibodeau said.

Gibson said he "felt good" in practice and "should be able to go" but admitted he's still being evaluated.

Practice makes perfect: Aaron Brooks has been lauded by Thibodeau. On Monday, the newcomer returned the favor, calling practices detailed and organized.

"We don't do useless drills," Brooks said. "It seems like everything is for a purpose. One thing I admire about Thibs is he's precise and consistent. Whether you like it or not, you have to respect the consistency."

Bottom feeders: The Bulls' four games in five nights -- against the Magic, Bucks, 76ers and Celtics -- are against teams with the four worst records last season, though the Celtics were tied with the Jazz.

"I like our schedule," Thibodeau said. "We have a heavy road schedule. There are a lot of games. We feel we have great depth. And I think this gets you ready."

Layups: The Heat's Chris Bosh was named Eastern Conference player of the week. Pau Gasol, with averages of 18.7 points and 8.7 rebounds, was a finalist. ... The NBA fined Timberwolves guard Kevin Martin $15,000 for his obscene gesture following a 3-pointer late in Saturday's game against the Bulls.
