Jan. 16--Pitcher Jake Arrieta correctly predicted his contract status could be settled by Friday.
Arrieta and the Cubs agreed to a one-year, $3.63 million contract.
The salary represents a raise of more than $3 million for Arrieta, who posted a 10-5 record and 2.53 ERA last season with the Cubs.
Arrieta's signing was first reported by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports.
The Cubs have three remaining unsigned arbitration eligible players -- pitchers Travis Wood and Pedro Strop and infielder Luis Valbuena.
