BRIEF: Preview: Notre Dame at Virginia

Sept. 12--TV/radio: 2:30 p.m. Saturday; ABC-7, WLS-AM 890.

Line: Notre Dame by 11.

Records: Notre Dame 1-0; Virginia 0-1.

Last meeting: Notre Dame won the only meeting 36-13 on Aug. 31, 1989, at Giants Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.

On the offensive: The Irish had two 90-plus-yard scoring drives Saturday, and Malik Zaire completed 19 of 22 passes. Virginia QB Matt Johns is a capable thrower and RB Taquan Mizzell is a threat.

Getting defensive: The Irish allowed just 60 rushing yards and 163 total yards against Texas while recording four sacks. Virginia gave up 351 yards (9.5 per catch) last week against UCLA.

The number: 0. Games the Irish have played in Virginia. It will be the 36th state in which Notre Dame has played.

The talk: With RB Tarean Folston gone for the season, can the Irish backfield, including Zaire, make up for his loss?

Paul Skrbina's pick: The Irish haven't won a true road game in their last five tries. That changes this week. Notre Dame 27, Virginia 10.
