BRIEF: Police warn of armed robberies at West Side gas stations

April 30--Police are warning West Side residents after a string of armed robberies this month at gas stations in the East Garfield Park and Lawndale neighborhoods.

Two of the robberies happened in the 300 block of South Sacramento Boulevard about 9:20 a.m. April 9 and about 1 p.m. April 27, according to a police statement. There were also two other robberies in the 600 block of South Independence Boulevard on April 26.

In every robbery, multiple males approached someone in a gas station and robbed the person "by use of force and the threat of force by displaying a handgun," according to authorities. Police said the robbers made off with vehicles, cellphones, cash and credit cards.

The offenders were described as black males, ages 17 to 21, about 5-foot-9 and 130 pounds, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Area North detectives at (312) 744-8263.
