BRIEF: Pedestrian dies after she's hit by an SUV on Newport Boulevard

Jan. 26--A woman who was hit by an SUV while crossing the street in Costa Mesa last week has died, police said Monday.

Alexandria Faith Hill, 33, of Walnut was crossing the northbound lanes of Newport Boulevard near Rochester Street when a Nissan Xterra hit her about 8:30 p.m. Friday, according to Costa Mesa police.

Paramedics took Hill to Orange County Global Medical Center in critical condition to be treated for a skull fracture and severe brain trauma, according to police.

Hill died from her injuries on Saturday, police said.

Hill might have been crossing against a red light when she was hit, police said; the investigation is continuing.

At least one witness told police that the SUV was headed north on Newport Boulevard when it struck Hill, who was walking near the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection, according to police.

The Xterra's 24-year-old driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. She did not show any signs of impairment or intoxication and was released at the scene.

Police asked that anyone with more information about the crash contact Traffic Investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
